Wedding Liability Insurance, (or, as you may have heard it called - Wedding Reception Insurance) ensures that the happy couple doesn’t start their married life together with significant legal bills from expensive liability lawsuits.

With Wedding Liability Insurance, the host (often the parents) as well as brides and grooms can protect themselves from the financial loss that could occur as the result of being held legally responsible for property damage to the venue, or for someone’s injuries suffered at the event.

What Wedding Liability Insurance Covers

Markel’s Wedding Liability Insurance policy includes primary coverage for the ceremony and accompanying reception, the rehearsal dinner (if it is held within 48 hours of the wedding ceremony) and even while setting up and removing decorations if within 24 hours of the event date. Coverage can be purchased up to 1 day before the wedding date.

A Wedding Liability Insurance policy provides the following primary coverage:

  • Bodily Injury and Property Damage Liability - Up to $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 total
  • Host Liquor Liability, if desired
  • Optional Cancellation Endorsement

If there will not be any alcohol at your rehearsal or wedding reception, you can choose to remove coverage for any alcohol-related occurrences. If you exclude Host Liquor Liability coverage, your premium will be reduced.

No charge to add your venue as “Additional Insured.”

Many venues now require wedding reception insurance. If your venue requires wedding liability insurance, they will usually want to be named as an "Additional Insured" on the Certificate of Insurance. Markel includes this with your policy at no extra cost.
